Items found in forest preserves to be auctioned

Obenauf Auction Service, Inc. will auction a variety of unclaimed property found in forest preserves throughout Lake County, at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. The auction will be held at the Lake County Fairgrounds, Peterson and Midlothian roads, in Grayslake. Offerings include bicycles, clothing, electronics, and assorted items in the possession of the Lake County Forest Preserve Ranger police.

Protest organized ahead of GOP gun raffle in Kildeer

At least a dozen firearms will be raffled off at the $75-per-person event, according to promotional materials , including at least two safes filled with guns. Grayslake resident Patt Heise said she read news reports about the event on Wednesday and was shocked it would be happening so soon after 58 people were killed in Las Vegas the largest mass shooting in modern American history.

Police: Suspect crashes car after Third Lake bank robbery

Police on Tuesday arrested a man in connection to a bank robbery in Third Lake after the suspect crashed his car, officials say. The robbery occurred at 3:12 p.m. at an Associated Bank branch on Route 45 near Grayslake, FBI Chicago Media Coordinator Garrett Croon said in an email Tuesday.

The end of a big road project always is welcome but the completion of the Washington Street Thoroughfare was hailed Friday as having special significance. A bevy of past and present Lake County officials, local leaders, contractors and others gathered along Washington Street just west of the completed railroad underpass in Grayslake to officially mark the end of a $53 million project that took two years to build.

Getting through Grayslake on Route 120 can be tough at times, and the going may be a little tougher beginning today with the expected start of a project aimed at making travel smoother. Weather permitting, the Illinois Department of Transportation will begin a $1.66 million project to connect and synchronize traffic signals and make other upgrades between Route 134 in Hainesville to Route 45 in Grayslake.

The Grayslake village board was slated to take final action Tuesday on a plan to build a Circle K gas station at the intersection of Route 83 and Lake Street, but on Monday the developers requested a delay. The developers behind a proposed gas station and convenience mart at Route 83 and Lake Street in Grayslake have asked officials to postpone a decision on the project just ahead of a village board vote scheduled for Tuesday.

Lake County leaders on Friday will celebrate the nearly complete Washington Street Thoroughfare Project in central Lake County at the new underpass in Grayslake built as part of the work. The two-year, $53 million project included the widening to five lanes of two segments of Washington Street from west of Hainesville Road to Lake Street.

CLC to host regional college fair

Lake County high school students and their parents can learn about nearly 180 colleges and universities at the Illinois Regional College Fair, hosted by the College of Lake County from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19. The fair will be in the Physical Education Center, Building 7, on the CLC Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. Information sessions on college financial aid will be provided by staff from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. in Room 706 of the Physical Education Center.
